Establishment of the collective security challenges in the Gulf region and possible scenarios

Abstract

Persian Gulf in terms of historical background and civilization, communicative situation, the importance of strategic, geo-culture status, presence of oil and gas reserves, requires a regional collective security system involving all the actors and players.
The present article, in a descriptive-analytical manner, seeks to answer the fundamental question of what constitutes the challenges to the formation of a collective security system in the Gulf region? And what elements of an appropriate model of collective security in the Gulf include preventing tensions in the region? The findings show that challenges such as having different and even conflicting views on how to secure regional security, the sovereignty of different government systems, the concern of the southern Gulf states about Iran's high power and geopolitical development, the divergence of views on sovereignty in Iraq, The Middle East peace issue, the atmosphere of public mistrust in the Persian Gulf, foreign opposition, possible resistance by regional governments in the southern Gulf states, US military presence in Iraq and the Persian Gulf, territorial and border disputes between countries in the region, and inadequate mentality. The appropriate model for the formation of collective security in the region should also include the GCC, Iran-Iraq, and limited member participation that would require membership of all countries in the region, including Iran and Iraq, identify common threat areas
